ISISLab Portal

ISISLab is a research lab of the Dipartimento di Informatica ed Applicazioni "R.M. Capocelli" of the Università degli Studi di Salerno (see the directions and the map of the campus). Our main research interests are Distributed Computing on the Web and Computer Graphics.

  • May 20th, 2010: Biagio Cosenza, PhD student of ISISLab, got a scholarship from German program DAAD (German Academic Exchange Service)! Congratulations Biagio!

  • March 13th, 2010: Local newspaper (Mattino, Salerno) reports about the project on Laviano here ("Disegni della memoria per ricostruire il paese distrutto"). You can find more on the project at the project website http://laviano.restitu.it.
  • February 26th 2010: NVIDIA home page cites us in Universities Teaching the CUDA Parallel Programming Model for teaching CUDA programming in our course .
  • October 14th 2009: Our work on high performance computing for massively parallel simulations of animal group behavior by using the GPU is listed on the Collective Animal Behaviour Laboratory of the Princeton University. Thanks Iain!
  • September 1st 2009: Our paper "Extending IC-Scheduling via the Sweep Algorithm" is listed in "Featured publications" on the Main Research Page at Google. (congratulations Gennaro!)
  • May 26th 2009: CoFFEE and the Lead Project are featured on the ICT Result web site of the European Commission

The goal we had to pursue was to build an Educational 3D Virtual Environment that would allow to provide a different experience to the young tourist who approaches the Poseidonia-Paestum site. The intended experience for users is different from the passive one provided by traditional DVD/VHS media, more immersive, cooperative and able to convey the appeal of a videogame. On the other hand we did not want to oversimplify the value of the architectural monuments yet visible in the site, in particular an important issue was to emphasize how different civilizations occupied the site through the centuries.
